Natural History Walks

2009 Spring Hike Series

The BCCER will host a series of natural history hikes every weekend from March 28th through May 3rd 2009. Folks from BCCER will lead group trips on an exploration of Big Chico Creek Canyon . Come and enjoy the spring weather, move through blooming flowers and creek side riffles as you experience an educational visit to Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve. Hikes will vary in difficulty, allowing an opportunity for everyone!

Difficult hikes are all day trips, allowing groups to access the most remote lands of BCCER and discover hidden treasures few are able to experience. Trip dates: 3/28, 4/19. Meet at 9 AM (All Day Trip)
Hike leader: Dr. Paul Maslin, BCCER Field Director

Moderate hikes will descend into the Canyon on dirt roads and primitive hiking trails concluding with lunch beside Big Chico Creek. Those up for the challenge can hike back to the top after lunch, others may option for a shuttle ride.

Trip dates: 4/11, 5/3. 10AM-2PM

Easy hikes will follow the gentler contours of the canyon and walk the safest routes of the Reserve, taking time to enjoy the spring time magic.

Trip dates: 4/5, 4/26. 10 AM – 2PM
