Journalism Produces Country's Best Weekly

Chico State’s student newspaper, The Orion, has been the most honored collegiate weekly in the country for more than a decade.
- The 2012 California College Media Association awarded The Orion the top award for General Excellence and Best Overall Design for all four-year university weeklies in the state.
- In 2011, for the fifth consecutive year, The Orion won first place for general excellence in the Best of Show competition for four-year weekly college and university newspapers. The Orion has consistently placed either first or second in the National College Journalism Convention for over a decade.
- In 2011, The Orion’s website took third place among “large school” competitors, or schools with more than 10,000 students.
- The Orion won the 2009 National Pacemaker Award for the 11th time at the College Media Convention. The Orion is the only newspaper to win the award, considered the highest honor in college journalism, four consecutive years.
- The Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame inducted The Orion in 2005.
