Join a Reading Group

You can join a  book group or start your own. Once you have read the book, take advantage of the films, talks, meetings, and other events that have been organized around the themes of The Soloist.

  • Students at CSU, Chico  and Butte Community College may find the book required in a class or can start a book group with other students.
  • Join Lyon Books’ new  book discussion group, Soloist-Touchstone. It is inspired by the community Book in Common, The Soloist by Steve Lopez. The group will continue to discuss The Soloist and also read other books pursuing  themes of homelessness, mental illness, and the impact of music. For our August 11 meeting, we discussed Musicophilia, a fascinating look at how music affects the human brain by neurologist Oliver Sacks. Our  September selection is Poor People by William T. Vollmann, a  riveting inquiry into experiences of the poor around the world. All meetings  are the second Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at Lyon Books. Call 891-3338  for more details.
  • Barnes and Noble will hold three discussions throughout the year on The Soloist with guest speakers.  Check out the Calendar for dates and  times.
