Leaders on the court and in the classroom

Our athletes boast a GPA that’s higher than that of the overall student body.

The Chico State men’s basketball team soared to new heights this year. They competed in the Division II Elite Eight for the first time in the program’s 99-year history. The Wildcats’ record-setting season included 25 wins and a first-ever NCAA West Regional Championship title.

What’s even more remarkable is that they did this without losing sight of their responsibilities in the classroom the fact that they are part of an academic institution. Among these consummate student-athletes are National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court members and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Academic Award recipients. Sean Park, one of Chico State’s leading scorers, was one of five named Capital One Academic All-District out of approximately 400 Division II West Region men’s basketball players.

Every Wildcat can take pride in striking a healthy balance between student and athlete. Their discipline shows, on and off the court, the course, the field, and the track. Their athletic prowess earned the Athletics program a No. 6 spot nationwide. And a record 58 student-athletes earned CCAA All-Academic awards (for GPAs of 3.40 or higher) in 2013–14.

Title after title, it adds up to a commitment to excellence—in all arenas.

Sean Park demonstrates his dedication to Chico State both on the court and in the classroom. He is one of the team’s strongest players and a two-time CCAA All-Academic Award winner.
