The Department of Biological Sciences at CSU, Chico is committed to becoming Northern California’s premier facility for the education of students, the creation of insightful researchers, skilled professionals, and knowledgeable citizens who will have the capacity to meet biological challenges of the future and will continue to contribute towards our understanding of life.

Our Mission

To prepare biology majors for the next step in their careers; to educate and train the next generation of biological scientists; to provide all students at CSU, Chico with an opportunity to learn how science is done and to learn about important, significant, and relevant biological knowledge needed by citizens; to contribute to the expansion of our knowledge about biology; and, to serve as a resource of biological expertise for the campus and surrounding community.

New Streamlined B.A. Program in Biological Sciences For Future Teachers …Get Your Degree and Get a Job Now

Interested in teaching? Have we got a deal for you! The Department of Biological Sciences proudly announces its new 60 unit B.A. Program which is especially designed for students who wish to pursue a single subject matter teaching credential in science, and for those considering biology-related interdisciplinary fields. This program streamlines the preparation of future biology and life science teachers, reducing the unit requirements from 84 to 60 units in science, and enables students to complete their entire undergraduate and teacher preparation program in five years of full time study.

Requirements for the B.A. are:  BIOL 151, 152, 153, 350, 360, 369, 370, 371, 489 and one elective; CHEM 111, 112, 270; GEOS 102, 300; PHYS 202A, 202B and NSCI 489A.

Interested students should see Dr. Mintzes in Holt 206 or e-mail jmintzes@csuchico.edu.  All students who enroll in the new B.A. Program are eligible for the free textbooks program available through the Department of Science Education.
