This course will emphasize the biology and natural history of
major organismal groups common to habitats of the Eagle Lake
Basin as well as the western fringe of the Great Basin Desert.
Ecological and evolutionary concepts will be stressed throughout the lecture, lab, and field components of this course.
- PREREQUISITES: Biology 9 (General Botany), 10 (General
Zoology), and 12 (Cell Molecular Biology) are recommended as
prerequisites for this course.

- Course Description:
An intensive field-based introduction to identification
techniques and interpretive procedures used in the analysis of
animal remains from archaeological sites. Ecological principles
and vertebrate natural history will be explored through field
observations. A laboratory component will involve the
identification of vertebrate osteological remains. Student research
projects will focus on reconstruction of prehistoric subsistence
strategies and human ecology on the fringe of the Great Basin
Desert.
- PREREQUISITES: Biology 6A and 6B or Introduction to Archaeology
