We hosted Dr Trent following his Biology Department Seminar, "How to live in boiling sulfuric acid". Dr Trent has been involved in many very interesting research projects during his career from studying open ocean distributions of microorganisms to thermophilic chaperone proteins to nanotechnology. We were fortunate to host Dr Trent and his wife Susanne for a potluck dinner following his seminar. For more information about Dr Trent: Click here. To see an artistic side of Dr Trent, check out his photogallery of marine microorganisms: http://homepage.interaccess.com/~cycloid/archives/trent.gst/trenttx.htm |

Microbial Ecology students looking over one of the hot springs at Devil's Kitchen. The group analyzed temperatures and pH and collected samples for later laboratory analysis. Some of the more extreme pots were above 75 C and had pH near 2.2. |

Dr Ken Stedmann is Assistant Professor of Biology at Portland State University who studies viruses of thermophilic Archaea. The Microbiology Club hosted Dr Stedmann who gave a seminar on "Viruses from Hell". Afterwards we hosted Dr Stedman for dinner and discussion about his research at Portland State University.
