CSU, Chico | College of Behavioral and Social Sciences | About the College | Health & Community Services
The Department of Health and Community Services provides another wonderful example of the caliber of service activities that typify the programs in our college. Throughout the academic year, instructors of several courses involve their students in community activities that promote health and fitness. Examples of classroom involvements include nutrition fairs, environmental theatre, health and safety expos, blood drives, exercise programs, health education for migrant farm workers, and a variety of additional activities.
The BS degree in health science prepares students with a broad-based curriculum to pursue a number of career paths in the health field. Health occupations currently offer a tremendous variety of job possibilities with more than 600 titles. The health care system employs more than seven million workers, qualifying as the nation’s second largest employer. Students who choose a major in health science must also declare an option in gerontology, health education, or health services administration. All options have a required 300-hour internship in a community setting to integrate classroom learning with the realities of professional practice.
