Social Work

The School of Social Work has an intensive service learning and internship program for their students. Every one of the general education courses they offer has a service learning component and every one of the courses in their 33 unit undergraduate professional sequence has a service learning or internship component. As students move though this program, they gain the degree of proficiency necessary for a beginning practitioner. By the time they graduate with a bachelor's degree, students have completed an impressive 130 hours of service learning followed by 480 hours of internship. In addition, students enrolled in the Masters programs must complete 480 internship hours in their first year and 720 internship hours in their second year of study.

Throughout their education, social work undergraduate and graduate students are placed with agencies in Butte, Glenn, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Yuba-Sutter Counties. They work with a variety of community groups and client populations. This arrangement benefits the various agencies and their clients and it definitely benefits the students who get invaluable professional experience and contacts that often result in job placements.
