The sociology major and minor offer students several opportunities for service learning and internship experiences. Courses that include service learning on a regular basis are women and contemporary societies (SOCI 230), genocide and mass persuasion (SOCI 356), sociology of the life course (SOCI 461), and environmental sociology (SOCI 420). In addition, some sections of principles of sociology (SOCI 100) and applied research methods (SOCI 410 and SOCI 411) also include service learning projects. Examples of projects include
The department also offers an applied sociology internship (SOCI 489 for 1-3 units) in which students gain experience outside the classroom.
