Dr. Gayle E. Hutchinson serves as the dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at California State University, Chico. Dr. Hutchinson performed her undergraduate work in physical education at the University of Massachusetts and received her master's degree in teaching analysis and curriculum development from Columbia University. She earned a Doctor of Education degree from University Massachusetts in 1990. That same year, she came to Chico State University as a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology.
Before becoming dean, Dr. Hutchinson held several leadership positions at the University, notably as chair of the Department of Kinesiology and also as chair of the CSU, Chico Academic Senate. In 2004, she received the Lyda Smiley Award for significant contributions to public schools student health programs by a professional outside of nursing from the California School Nurses Organization. Additionally, Dr. Hutchinson was selected as one of 40 faculty members and administrators nationwide for the American Council of Education (ACE) Fellows Program in 2005, which prepares senior leaders for higher education leadership.
