Meet the Dean
Dr. Gayle E. Hutchinson is the dean of the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at California State University, Chico.
Hutchinson did her undergraduate work in physical education at the University of Massachusetts and received her master's degree in teaching analysis and curriculum development from Columbia University. She earned her Doctor of Education degree from U Mass in 1990. That same year, she came to the university as a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology.
Before becoming dean, Dr. Hutchinson held several leadership positions in the university, first as chair of her department and then as chair of the CSU, Chico Academic Senate. In 2004, she received from the California School Nurses Organization the Lyda Smiley Award for significant contributions to public schools student health programs by a professional outside of nursing. And, in 2005, she was selected as one of 40 faculty members and administrators nationwide for the American Council of Education (ACE) Fellows Program, which prepares senior leaders for higher education leadership.
