Economics
The Department of Economics offers a bachelor degree with options in Environmental and International Economics. Overall, the program of courses required for the economics major produces a student trained to think analytically and to be comfortable with quantitative methodology.
The department provides many opportunities for students to engage in research guided by faculty members. Supervised by faculty, economics students have participated in such studies as a cost/benefit analysis of solar power for the Bell Memorial Union on campus, a study of the economic impact of a plan to reduce water flows on the Feather River, and the study of the economic impact of poising Lake Davis to wipe out invasive species of fish. Economics students also participate in the North State community as interns with business and public agencies, such as:
A. G. Edwards

Chico State Math Department

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.
North State Rice Corporation

Because of the skills and experiences garnered in the various research and internship opportunities that the students take advantage of, economics graduates do well in the job market. Recent graduates have obtained jobs with such diverse entities as PG&E and the U.S. Department of Labor. Others have been accepted into prestigious graduate and law schools across the country.
