    Statewide Geography Meeting to Be Hosted By Our Geography and Planning Department
    The Geography and Planning Department and BSS will soon be hosting geographers from all over the state. The California Geographical Society will hold its annual meeting in Chico on May 2-4, 2008. We are excited as a department and college to be part of this. For many people, it will feel like a homecoming, as both faculty and students in the department have been quite active in this organization.

    New Tenure Track Faculty
    Our college continues to grow! Last year, we added seven new tenure track faculty to our college. This year, there are 17  new colleagues who've joined our faculty: Jesse Dizard, anthropology; Chris Coughlin, child development; Anita Chaudhry and Chi-Hung Liao, economics; Noriyuki Sato, geography and planning; Michael Mann, health and community services; Gabriel Aguilera, Michael Coyle, Margaret Leigey, Ryan Patten and Sally Parker, political science; Michael Ennis, David Hibbard and Martin van den Berg, psychology; James Sutton, sociology; and Sue Steiner, social work.

    Seventh Annual Symposium of Student Research
    Please join us for the seventh annual Symposium of Student Research and Scholarly Work on Thursday, April 24, 2008. Last year 31 undergraduate and graduate students from our college presented the research and theoretical papers they completed last academic year. The sessions will begin at 7 p.m. in Butte Hall followed by a reception for the participants, their families, and our faculty in the lobby of Butte Hall at 8:30 p.m. Programs for the evening will be available by calling 530-898-6171.

    World Explorations Lecture
    The 2007-08 Museum of Anthropology's monthly lecture series, World Explorations, begins in October. All the lectures are at 4 p.m. in Ayres Hall, on the first Sunday of every month.

    BSS Colloquium Series Continues
    The BSS faculty Colloquium Series continues this semester with a presentation by Dr. Dan Worthen, Department of Psychology, April 14, 2008.

    Last spring's Colloquium Series presenter was Dr. Neil Schwartz, Department of Psychology. His presentation, "Learning on the Web: Melding Mind and Machine through Metaphor," is based on research that appeared in the "Journal of Educational Computing Research," Vol. 35, No. 1, 2006.
