Marketing and Outreach Assistant

Job Description:

The Graphic Designer is responsible for all promotional printed material (i.e. flyers, brochures, quarter sheets), electronic promotions (i.e. social media, CADEC announcements, 21st birthday card email), as well as website updating and maintenance.
In addition to these, the Graphic Designer must be able to assist in the day-to-day management of CADEC Office operations (when needed) and contribute to the mission of CADEC at Chico State in creating a healthier campus culture.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Attending two-hour weekly training/team building/staffing meetings (Mondays/Fridays 2:00 - 4:00 PM)
  • Review, update and reconcile CADEC reports, evaluations and other documents for website purposes (i.e. AlcoholEDU data reports)
  • Be responsible for completing time sensitive assignments regularly such as:
    • Meeting deadlines for event print materials, getting approval for orders, sending out announcement and 21st birthday card emails
  • Ability to learn Cascade, and edit/update the CADEC website
  • Make telephone/email contact with vendors to discuss purchase orders, shipping documents and/or payment status

(When needed)

  • Answer phones, take detailed messages and represent CADEC via phone and in person
  • Assist all visitors to the CADEC office representing CADEC and the university in a positive manner
  • Assist with maintaining the physical organization of the CADEC office.
  • Assist PE’s with scheduling of CADEC presentation and outreach requests through Wildcat Sync
  • Other duties as assigned by Program Director
  • Assist as necessary with department events
  • Assist in communication with and collaboration with other campus departments and community partners
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Gain extensive knowledge about alcohol, drugs, substance use disorders, recovery, mental health, wellness, health promotion theory and practice, program development, marketing and stress management
  • Become part of a highly skilled, diverse team of students committed to providing accurate, nonjudgmental college-health information to the CSU Chico community
  • Become a recognized member of the Student Health Services and CADEC staff
  • Have an opportunity to contribute significantly to the growth of the Peer Education program

  • Ability to relate to students in need, faculty, staff and community members while representing the CADEC and CSU Chico
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook Email, standard copy, scanner and fax machines
  • Experience with Adobe programs – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop. As well as other programs such as Canva.
  • Experience with Web Design and the ability to learn – Cascade.
  • Balance of a professional attitude, behavior while having fun

Other Requirements:

  • Must be an enrolled, full time CSU Chico student in good academic standing
  • Must possess a 2.5 minimum GPA
  • Minimum 2 semester commitment required (3 to 4 semesters preferred)
  • Must attend weekly training/team building/staffing meeting (Mondays/Fridays from 2:00 - 4:00 PM)
  • Attend and complete all mandatory training as assigned by Professional Staff. These include but are not limited to: HIPAA Certification, Mental Health First Aid, Wildcat ROAR!, Diversity Training and Defensive Driver Training
  • All CADEC student employees are required to sign a detailed Employment Contract each semester. The Fall 2016 Contract is available for viewing in the CADEC office, SSC 180 during regular business hours, M - F 8 am - 5 pm
  • We strongly recommend visiting the CADEC Office and meeting with the current Graphic Designer and Professional Staff and viewing the Student Employment Contract prior to applying
