Students: Please report your job and internship offers!
Please assist the Career Center by reporting your job and internship offers. By spending just a few moments of your time, you can help the University provide public* data that reflects the success rate of our graduating seniors. By reporting your organization’s offers to Chico State students, it allows us to collect valuable salary and hiring data, which in turn is available to all employers. Also, we typically develop a list of “top recruiters” which highlights the employers extending the most offers on our campus. By ensuring your companies’ offers are reported, you will increase your organization’s exposure and also help us to accurately reflect Chico State’s placement trends, information that may be useful in developing your future recruitment strategies. Learning Objectives and Outcomes

The Career Center values ongoing assessment to ensure students are learning as a result of their experience with the Career Center. We strive to achieve the following learning objectives:

• 1) As a result of Career Center outreach (workshops, class discussions, etc.) students will visit the Career Center to take advantage of services related to career planning and internship/career searches.
  • Outcome: 96 percent of surveyed students, as a result of a Career Center seminar in spring 2009, reported they plan to utilize the Career Center's services when in need of an internship or career positions.
• 2) Students with information about Career Center services will consider the Career Center a valuable resource for their career and/or internship search.
  • Outcome: 94 percent of surveyed students, as a result of a Career Center seminar in spring 2009, reported they consider the Career Center as effective in preparing for a career/internship search.
• 3) Students seeking advice about networking will understand the value of networking and be able to identify the three key elements of a social/professional networking site as it relates to a job search.
  • Outcome: 54 percent of surveyed students are able to correctly identify the three key elements of a social/professional networking site as it relates to the job search, as a result of Career Center networking seminar conducted in spring 2009.
• 4) Students seeking help on their resume will be able to create an effective resume and will be able to identify the Career Center's four standard resume guidelines.
  • Outcome: 92 percent of surveyed students are able to identify the Career Center's four standard resume guidelines, as a result of a Career Center resume seminar conducted in spring 2009.
• 5) Students seeking help with interview skills and will be able to identify the recommended elements to include when answering a behavioral interviewing question.
  • Outcome: 58 percent of surveyed students are able to correctly identify the recommended elements to include when answering a behavioral interviewing question, as a result of an interviewing seminar conducted in spring 2009.
• 6) Students attending seminars on career identification and goal setting will be able to identify five characteristics of SMART goals.
  • Outcome: 90 percent of surveyed students are able to identify the five characteristics of SMART goals as a result of a Career Center goal-setting seminar in spring 2009.

Survey Results

Recruiter Evaluation of Office Services

The Career Center conducts an annual survey of the employers who recruit on campus. Of the 110 employers who recruited graduates at CSU, Chico in the 2011-2012 school year, 70 (61%) responded to the survey.

• 86% of employers responding rated the candidates at CSU, Chico as either OUTSTANDING or ABOVE AVERAGE compared to students at other universities where they recruit.
• 84% of employers responding rate the academic curriculum at CSU, Chico as either OUTSTANDING or ABOVE AVERAGE compared to other universities where they recruit.
• 99% of employers rated the CSU, Chico Career Placement Office operations as either OUTSTANDING or ABOVE AVERAGE compared to other universities where they recruit.

Student Evaluation of Office Services

Chico State was one of the highest ranked universities in a CSU-wide assessment, the CSU Quality Improvement Program 2007 survey, which measured student satisfaction. Chico State ranked extremely well in 13 of the significant criteria, including

• Overall quality of service from staff
• Assistance in finding potential employment after graduation
• Career counseling and advisement
• Career days and job fairs

Students surveyed were either very or moderately satisfied with the following Career Center services:
89.32% - Overall quality of service from Career Center staff
87.86% - Overall quality of the Career Center
85.93% - Availability of services
83.98% - Electronic resources and online services

Satisfaction survey for spring 2009 Education Workshop:

• 88% “strongly agreed” or “agreed" they felt more prepared, as a whole, for their job search as a professional educator
• 84% “strongly agreed” or “agreed" they felt more confident about their interviewing skills
• 76% “strongly agreed” or “agreed" they felt more confident about their resume writing skills
