B.S. Nursing, 2014
During my first years at Chico State, I gained incredible professional skills by attending events put on by the Career Center. These skills helped to increase my confidence when speaking with employers and started to shape me into a leader. As I entered into my senior year in the Nursing program, I spoke with a career advisor about how difficult it was to find a job right out of school. He asked me which hospital was my top choice for employment. I responded desperately, “ANY hospital that will give me a job!” He looked at me and said, “No, no ,no. I’m not buying that. You need to aim for your dream job.” This is when I realized that I was in charge of my future. I had always wanted to work for Dignity Health, so I looked into different locations, and before I knew it, there was an opening at a Dignity Health hospital in Redding, CA. I networked with the directors of the hospital using the skills I learned at the networking social, had my resume reviewed by an advisor, scheduled a phenomenal mock interview with another advisor, and had phone calls about how to formally accept my job offer. I became a Registered Nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. I am incredibly grateful for all that the Career Center staff have done to support me in my professional journey. I encourage all students to take full advantage of their services starting as early as your freshmen year.
