Log File Management

Project Description

With over 110 central Enterprise servers creating 40 GB of log file data a day, manual review of the log files created is not feasible.  Log files are created from many varied events such as hardware, operating systems, applications, web services and databases.  Application managers, programmers, database users and server administrators should all review their logs daily.  From a security perspective, a central log file server is recommended so that, in the case of a server breach, all log file data would be preserved. The preserved log file data would be used for further forensic studies.
The proposed solution will be to purchase central log file management software, including a server with significant hard drive space.

Install and configure central server and application software
Phased migration of servers to central log file server
Initial rollout to Enterprise Systems Group

Stage 3 – Self Service Rollout                                                                         Feb 2008-Apr 2008
Phased implementation of web, database and application users
