Administrators’ Pledge to Support REAL Teachers

I understand that quality standards-based physical education is an important part of the solution to the nation’s obesity problem. For the sake of all children’s health and well-being I pledge to support REAL teachers by:

• Becoming educated about state and national standards for quality physical education.

• Showing that I value quality physical education by doing all I can to demand that the teachers on my PE staff are REAL teachers, not baby-sitters.

• Putting REAL teachers in leadership positions, and supporting them in every possible way.

• Never forgetting that the number one priority is to teach all the students, and while coaching after school sports is very important it should not lead to sacrifices in the PE program.

• Not allowing substitutions for physical education, as this would indicate my lack of understanding of the crucial role REAL teachers can play in curbing the rise in childhood obesity.

RATING SCALE FOR ADMINISTRATORS

At CASPER we understand that administrators have a variety of responsibilities which limit their time to look at each school program. In an effort to help administrators at all levels determine if a physical education program meets nationally recognized standards for high quality, we have provided a link to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). This link will take you directly to a program checklist developed by NASPE. Along with this checklist there is a chart provided to help you improve your program's weak areas.
