Evaluating a P.E. Program

Physical Education Rating Scales

In this section you will find two rating scales that you may use to evaluate a Physical Education program. The purpose of these rating scales is to help you understand and/or determine how a program measures up to what is considered to be quality physical education. The scales will give you a good idea about which changes should be made, if any. You may choose to bring your observation results to the attention of the physical education teachers and/or administrators. Please remember that recognizing and rewarding good quality programs is as important as pointing out short comings

Rating Scale for Administrators

At CASPER we understand that administrators have a variety of responsibilities which limit their time to look at each school program. In an effort to help administrators at all levels determine if a physical education program meets nationally recognized standards for high quality, we have provided a link to the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). This link will take you directly to a program checklist developed by NASPE. Along with this checklist there is a chart provided to help you improve your program's weak areas.
