Cultural aspects of the deaf community, such as history, education, language arts, and pragmatics will be explored. This course provides students the opportunity for introductory study of basic diagnostic procedures for formal and informal evaluation of communication disorders. A thorough exploration of standardized test construction and administration is covered, as well as less formal assessment tools such as language samples. The information presented includes a comprehensive examination of methodologies specific to infants, toddlers, children, adults, and the geriatric population. Important issues regarding the assessment of non-native speakers of English and speakers of other languages are also discussed in detail.
