The Associated Students of Chico State have a long history of supporting a sustainable campus. Since 1966 the AS Recycling Program has served the campus by collecting recyclables for reprocessing. Composting has been stimulated through campus demonstration. Students regularly scour and clean the campus and community waterways.

The University saves energy by underwriting public transportation--providing free bus service for students, faculty, and staff. The Environmental Action and Resource Center promotes education and advocacy. Sustainability conferences attract participants from throughout the nation.
