The Certificate in Literary Editing and Publishing

This certificate provides training in editing, copyediting, selection procedures and standards, publishing procedures, graphics, printing technologies, and marketing and distributing literature.

Course Requirements for the Certificate: 25 units

The following courses, or their approved transfer equivalents, are required of all candidates for this certificate.

A GPA of 2.5 is required for all courses taken for the certificate.

19 units required:

CDES 131 Visual Communication Concepts 2.0 FS
CDES 281 Print Production 3.0 FS
ENGL 315 Intro Literary Edit/Publish 4.0 SP

OR (the following course may be substituted for the above)

ENGL 415 Literary Editing 4.0 FA
Prerequisites: ENGL 220 (may be taken concurrently).
ENGL 419 Chapbook Production 4.0 SP
Prerequisites: ENGL 415 or two 400-level courses from the Minor in Creative Writing, or ENGL 620, or ENGL 622, or instructor permission.

OR (the following course may be substituted for the above)

ENGL 519 Chapbook Production 4.0 SP
Prerequisites: ENGL 415; or two 400-level courses from the Minor in Creative Writing; or ENGL 620.
ENGL 416 Editing for Publication 3.0 SP
Prerequisites: ENGL 335 or ENGL 375 (may be taken concurrently).
ENGL 489 Internship in English 1.0 -3.0 FS

ENGL 489 must be taken for 3 units.

Prerequisites: CDES 114, CDES 281, or faculty permission.
CDES 334 Typography I 3.0 FS
Prerequisites: CDES 230, CDES 282; concurrent enrollment in or prior completion of CDES 214.
CDES 431 Publication Design 3.0 FA
Prerequisites: CDES 333, CDES 334.
MGMT 303 Survey of Management 3.0 FS
