| Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) is an Associated Students program located on the California State University, Chico campus that has been serving the community since 1966. Our student run non-profit agency offers over 20 volunteer programs to choose from, including those that serve children, the elderly, special populations, adult non-readers, English as a Second Language learners, low-income residents in the Chico area, as well as state parks and institutions throughout Northern California. Each year over 2000 students provide more than 60,000 hours of community service through CAVE!
CAVE's goal is to provide Chico State students with meaningful volunteer opportunities, while also serving a broad base of community needs. Our motto “Life is for Learning,” supports our philosophy that the community should be a classroom for hands-on learning. Structured service experiences at CAVE provide students an opportunity to learn about community needs and their role as a member of a democracy, while also developing leadership skills and providing hands-on experience.
