Linguistically & Culturally Diverse Learners

The Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Learner option is designed to prepare candidates for leadership roles in staff development and services for English Learners. Key goals are (a) to provide the means by which candidates can address the critical pedagogical and linguistic needs of California's diverse student population, and (b) promote sensitivity to multicultural issues in education. Candidates will identify, read, and assess reasearch relative to issues in bilingual education, second langauge acquisition, and multicultural education.

 

Program Description:

The Linguistically and Culturally Diverse Learner option serves as a logical extension to CLAD/BCLAD emphasis credential or the SB 2042 preliminary or professional credential. The candidate will be prepared to teach or supervise students from a variety of languages and cultures in elementary, secondary, and other educationla settings. Graduates of the program will provide educational leadership in diverse instructional contexts.

Candidates will gain knowledge and skills to meet the challenge of providing appropriate education for students of diverse langauges and cultures. Candidates will explore new perspectives and facilitate a sense of belonging to a lager community.
