The CCHE will hold its third annual conference, September 25-27, 2008, in the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara (5101 Great America Parkway). Keynoter James Gregory, professor of history at the University of Washington, will speak on “From Dust and Delta: How the Great Migrations of Black and White Southerners Changed California.” The conference will also feature Bob Bain of the University of Michigan, who will explore “United States History in Context: The Classroom and the World,” as well as Standards-based content lectures by university scholars, field-tested lessons by teachers, and presentations by participants in, and directors of, Teaching American History grants from throughout the state.
Attendees at the 2007 conference were overwhelmingly positive about their experience; 72.0% of those who submitted evaluations felt that the conference’s “value to me as an educator” was “Excellent,” and another 25.3% viewed it as “Good.” 100% agreed with the statements “I would attend future CCHE conferences” and “I would recommend future conferences to others.” Click here to view the complete evaluation results.
Registration Information
Come to the 2008 conference and experience the satisfaction expressed by last year’s attendees. Registration fees are $100 for CCHE members and $135 for non-members. The registration fee for non-members includes one year memberships in both the CCHE and its parent organization, the National Council for History Education! Download a conference registration form.
Who said there's no such thing as a free lunch? Not the CCHE! Lunches on Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27, are free, provided you sign up for them on your registration form. The opening reception, from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, is also free with advance sign-up on your conference registration form!
Hotel Information
The official conference hotel, the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara, has a limited number of rooms available at the special conference rate of $139 per night, single or double occupancy (triple and quadruple occupancy rates are $164 and $189, respectively). These rates are guaranteed through August 25, and may increase after that date. Register online, or call the Hyatt Regency at (408) 200-1234 to register. When calling, be sure to mention that you are attending the CCHE conference to get the reduced rate. Located just five miles from San Jose International Airport, the Hyatt offers free self-parking to conference attendees.
