The CCHE will hold its fourth annual conference, September 24-26, 2009, at the Hilton Orange County in Costa Mesa (3050 Bristol Street). With registration fees reduced by $10-$15 in comparison to last year’s already-low rates, the conference promises to be an exceptional bargain. One thing that won’t change, though, is the quality of the conference program. Attendees at the 2008 CCHE conference were overwhelmingly positive about their experience: 77% of those who submitted evaluations felt that the conference’s “value for me as an educator” was “Excellent,” and the other 23% viewed it as “Good.” 100% agreed with the statements “I would attend future CCHE conferences” and “I would recommend future conferences to others.” Click here to view the complete evaluation results.
Keynoter Teo Ruiz of UCLA will launch the conference at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday September 24th with an address titled “Jews, Conversos, and the Inquisition in Iberia,” followed immediately by the CCHE’s famous free opening reception. Other featured speakers include the University of Michigan’s Bob Bain on Friday morning and Tim Sistrunk from CSU Chico leading off Saturday morning’s sessions. Standards-based content lectures by university scholars, field-tested lessons by teachers, and presentations by participants in, and directors of, Teaching American History grants from throughout the state will round out the program.
