The Department of Communication Design studies and teaches the commercial design and production of communications for clients. We seek to provide students with theory and history that will explain and provide meaning to the work that they will do. We seek to prepare students for the processes, tools, social structures, and economic relationships that will define their professions. We assume that communication media will continue to merge and evolve, so we strive to create understanding of the process of designing communications across all media.
The Faculty of the Department aspire to facilitate learning for their students in three areas:
- we seek to raise their visual, aural, and written communication literacy;
- we seek to improve their aptitude for thinking critically about the creation and exchange of mediated messages;
- we seek to improve their awareness of the social and ethical repercussions of their work in designing communications for clients.
