Graphic Design Option

Creative Problem Solving by Design

The Communication Design Department offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Design with an option in Graphic Design.

Graphic design is the process of communicating with meaningful visual form. Students in the communication design option learn creative problem solving, based on a foundation of communication design theory and skills in drawing, photography and typography.

Option Information

Through the Graphic Design option, students participate in a multidisciplinary program, which provides them with the knowledge to innovatively problem solve, using technical and communication theory and philosophy. This program offers students the fast paced skills they need, to succeed in one of the fastest growing fields today. Students in this option use multi-media communication and technology, through courses in communication design, art, art history, graphic design, internet communications, instructional technology and design, and media arts.

The Graphic Design curriculum teaches students to use typography, symbols, photography, and illustration to meet the needs of their clients or employers. Students will be exposed to the basic and advanced theory of design using traditional materials and various forms of communication technology. The graphic design coursework prepares students with a foundation in design fundamentals, so they can pursue careers in art direction, graphic design, illustration, animation, web design and other forms of multimedia.

Summer 2008 Course Offerings

cdes 352: Media Arts & Identity

This course uses screenings of film, video, music and television to discuss the relationships between society, culture, and the media.

cdes 468: Video Production Workshop

This special session of the Video Workshop course will be devoted to recording and production of of live music events.
