Faculty Development Fall 2017 Program Offerings

Write An Article in 12 Weeks
FLC Leader: Chris Fosen
Target Audience: All faculty including lecturers, tenured, and tenure-track. Returners who have participated before are also welcome
Compensation: $500 (minus costs of books)
Workload: Meeting two hours every other week for 12 weeks and a substantial commitment to writing
Brief Description: Using texts on scholarly writing in various disciplines, groups will meet for two hours every other week in Fall 2017 to discuss progress and offer feedback and structured support. Participants will receive copies of books on scholarly writing and will read and discuss chapters on such topics as article structure, revision, scholarly tone, and responding to journal decisions.

Improve Your Teaching Practice:
Tips, Strategies, and Resources for Lecturers
FLC Leader: Paula Selvester with help from interdisciplinary lecturer faculty
Target Audience: This FLC is specifically for lecturer faculty
Compensation: $500 (minus cost of books)
Workload: Regular meetings
Brief Description: First time teaching this many classes? Feeling just a little wobbly about your classes or like you are barely coming up for air? Do you sometimes feel you are living a life of quiet desperation? Don’t go it alone! Join some other new faculty members who are ready for some teaching tips and strategies that increase student engagement and target a diverse demographic who have a variety of interests, backgrounds, and abilities.

Quality Online Learning and Teaching
FLC Leader: Chiara Ferrari
Target Audience: All faculty including lecturers, tenured, and tenure-track interested in online and hybrid teaching
Compensation: $1200 (contingent upon funding approval)
Workload: Six two-hour hands-on workshops (Fall 2017), two two-hour follow-up meetings (Spring 2018).
Brief Description: The purpose of this FLC is to provide faculty the opportunity to design or redesign a course (taught partly or fully online), supported by the QOLT coordinator, TLP, and other experts in pedagogy and academic technology.

Affordable Learning Solutions (AL$): Textbook Affordability Project (TAP)
FLC Leader: Laura Sederberg
Target Audience: All faculty including lecturers, tenured, and tenure-track interested in re-thinking your textbook solution for class, willing to learn about affordable learning solutions available throughout the CSU.
Compensation: $500 in professional development per semester; fall 2017 and/or fall 2018.
Workload: Monthly 1-hour meetings with the full group; work on your own or with a consultant from TLP or MLIB. Time to summarize your experience in spreadsheet and narrative.
Brief Description: The purpose of this FLC is to provide faculty the opportunity to save students money on replacing expensive textbooks with affordable learning solutions; e-texts; online resources, etc.
