Subject: Assessment Essay
The First-Year Assessment Listserv (FYA-L) operates like an on-line magazine and discussion group. Brief, scholarly essays on issues relating to the assessment of first-year programs are shared via e-mail and then archived for future access on a related web site. Past contributors include Peter Ewell, George Kuh, Trudy Banta, Linda Sax, John Gardner, Betsy Barefoot, Lee Upcraft, and other luminaries in the field of assessment and first-year programs.
A new invited essay was added today. The essay is a case study of how The Pennsylvania State University's institutional research function supported the development and continuous improvement of a new first-year seminar initiative. The essay is archived at http://www.brevard.edu/fyc/listserv/remarks/dooris.htm. A full index of past invited essays and instructions for joining the FYA-L are available at http://www.brevard.edu/fyc/listserv/. The Listserv is especially designed for those who administer or have assessment responsibilities for first-year curricular or co-curricular programs. FYA-L is a project of The Policy Center on the First Year of College, funded by grants from The Pew Charitable Trusts and The Atlantic Philanthropies and currently has over 900 subscribers. Randy
