Alumni Association News
This year, along with the University celebrating its 125th anniversary, the Alumni Association is marking its 120th year. The first graduating class received their diplomas in 1891, and we were formed a year later. We have partnered with the University since the beginning.
For the 125th, alumni have stepped up to represent CSU, Chico. Alumni have volunteered on the 125th Anniversary Committee, participated in My Service Counts, and were part of the “1-2-5” photo seen on the cover of this magazine. Alumni also supported the quasquicentennial by participating in Expo 125 in April, helping make it a phenomenal event. There were almost 3,500 admitted students and parents who attended the Choose Chico! open house that morning, and an additional 2,500 or so who attended the Expo in the afternoon. I’m incredibly proud of our alumni efforts.
I’d like to share some successes coming out of the Chico Experience Week in October. It was kicked off again this year with the unveiling of the third Jake Early print (a valley oak) in the five-print series. His works are amazing and so clearly capture the essence of our university and our community.
Over the course of the 10 days of the Chico Experience Week, there were many events including celebrating Oktoberfest at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., the Sierra Oro Farm Trail Passport Weekend, Chico State Family Weekend Old-Fashioned Barbecue, Downtown Chico Harvest Sidewalk Sale, and 1955–1965 Era Reunion. Those are just a few examples of the events at which alumni got involved and celebrated campus and community.
As part of the 125th, we have a section on our website called “Alumni Who Make a Difference.” I encourage alums to check it out and share stories about the great things that our alums have done.
In closing, I would like to expand on an initiative mentioned above for the 125th, My Service Counts. This initiative challenged the campus and community to perform 125,000 hours of service in 2012. Please take a moment to log your 2012 service hours on the My Service Counts website. This is an area in which we can all make a difference!

Announcing the Wildcat Cruiser
The Wildcat Cruiser, a series of 125 limited-edition bicycles, commemorates the 125th anniversary of Chico State’s founding. The three-speed bike is manufactured by Felt Bikes and modeled after the Felt Beaumont. The graphics for the bike were designed by Jake Early, a 1994 alumnus of Chico State’s graphic design program. For information on how you can own a limited-edition Wildcat Cruiser, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
