Ellie Clifford Ertle
Director, Office of Civic Engagement
Ellie Clifford Ertle is the Director of Civic Engagement at CSU, Chico, teaches in the Department of Political Science, and serves as faculty coordinator of the Town Hall Meeting Program. She is invested in the concept of civic and community engagement as a core component of the University's mission and is excited to work with faculty and staff to develop civic opportunities across campus.
Annelise Wipfli joined the OCE team as the Student Assistant in fall 2014. She is currently a sophomore, majoring in Agricultural Business with a minor in Journalism and Public Relations. Along with working in the Office of Civic Engagement, Annelise has gained extensive leadership skills by facilitating leadership conferences for California FFA. Her past experiences include a leadership position for a SORES program, as well as an internship for the Public Relations Firm, The Dolphin group. She is an active and involved community member and College of Ag student, participating in community service on her free time.
Claire is a senior political science- legal studies major. As an intern for the Office Civic Engagement she works double duty as a liaison between Community Action Volunteers in Education (CAVE) and the OCE. She works to evaluate what service learning and civic engagement efforts are being done on campus and how these activities affect our student population and faculty. Outside of the OCE, Claire serves as the Kids Educational Director at CAVE. She likes to watch movies, and to go on walks.
Taylor Johnson is a senior, graduating this spring with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. She is a transfer student from San Diego Mesa Community College where she earned her associate’s degree in American history before coming to Chico to pursue further education in developing domestic and foreign policy. She is current president of Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honors Society, and a member of the Model United Nations teams. Taylor is working in the Office of Civic Engagement to increase voter awareness and participation among CSU, Chico students. Through a campus effort, Taylor aspires to continually break the record of first-year student voter registration and to inspire a genuine interest in campus, state, and national elections.
Stephanie is a senior in the political science program and is very excited to graduate and put her educational skills to work. She's an intern with the OCE, focusing on voter registration and turnout in the campus community. She hopes to help establish a connection between students and the city of Chico, while also showing the importance and effect of youth voting. In her free time, she enjoys acting, dancing, reading Stephen King, and planning her next trip to Disneyland.
Stephen joined the OCE in Fall 2014 to work on the office’s public relations. Stephen is a graduate student working toward his master’s degree in communication studies where he is focusing on environmental communication and advocacy. As an undergraduate he was the leader of a student campaign to promote responsible drinking, and is currently working on a nonprofit communication strategy to create healthier forests and resilient communities through the effective use of prescribed wildland fire. In his off time, Stephen rides motorcycles, sews custom packs and spends quality time with his dog, Bonzai.
