Graduate Degree: A Message from the Graduate Coordinator

Welcome to the Communication Sciences and Disorders Graduate Program. We are one of two programs in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. These programs are part of the School of Communication which is one of two schools in the College of Communication and Education. The name of our program was changed from Speech Pathology and Audiology to Communication Sciences and Disorders effective fall, 2003.

The number of units required for the M.A degree is from 52-60. This includes a minimum of 39 units of letter grade coursework plus comprehensive examinations or thesis/project, as well as a minimum of 375 hours (12 + CR/NC units) of clinical practice. Clinical coursework may be repeated to meet practicum requirements. Most students complete the degree in two years.

I will be your advisor, but not necessarily your committee chair. Before the middle of your first semester you must decide on the makeup of your committee. The committee will include a chair and two members. Your selection of chair should depend on your research interests if you are doing a thesis. If you decide to take comprehensive examinations instead then your chair selection can be arbitrary.
