Dr. Susan Avanzino Receives 2009-10 Outstanding Faculty Service Award
The Faculty Recognition and Support Committee has selected Communication Arts and Sciences professor Susan Avanzino to receive the 2009–2010 Outstanding Faculty Service Award.
Dr. Avanzino’s dedication to service encompasses not only her department, her college, and the University, but also extends to her students. Susan’s dedication to her students is evident both in and out of the classroom. As a professor, Susan is known for her organization and attention to detail. Several years ago a group of students approached Susan about restarting the Communication Studies program. She readily agreed to serve as the advisor to the program. She helped develop the club, plan meetings, and recruit new members.
Dr. Avanzino’s campus involvement and activities include Communications Studies undergraduate awards committee chair, summer orientation advising (14 years), judge for the Rookie Tournament (speech competition), college curriculum committee, numerous search committees, chair of the CMAS Chair Nominating Committee, Academic Senator, and will being serving as the Assessment Coordinator for the College of Communication and Education for 2010.
Professor Avanzino is a member of International Communication, Speech Communication, and Western States Communication Associations. She volunteers at her church and local public schools and is a frequent presenter to local organizations.
