2011 Conversations on Diversity Award Recipeint:
Annie Adamian for the After Chico Award
Anne Schulte for Taking it to the Classroom Award
Emilyn Sheffield (Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management) received the 2011 Scenic Byway Leadership Award for the development of an interactive workshop series on corridor management plans for byways to encourage their recreational and tourism potential.
Annie Adamian (Education) was a 2011 Conversations on Diversity Award Recipient, winning the After Chico Award. She is a science teacher at Bidwell Junior High who earned both her secondary credential and master's in education at Chico State.
Matt Schubert (Kinesiology) won a research award at the Southwest American College of Sports Medicine student research competition. Matt was the only student from a non-Research l institution and the only CSU student in the competition.
Undergraduate Awards for Research and Creativity for Fall 2011 were given to:
Serena Vervantes (Journalism and Public Relations) for her project titled Collected Memoirs.
Natasha Holland and Alexa Janicki (Exercise Physiology) for their project titled for Effects of Load Carriage on Gait Kinematics, Muscle Activity, and Postural Sway
The "Hood with a history" series of newspaper articles produced by journalism students about old Chico neighborhoods received a national award at the annual convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Research and External Support
Catherine Himberg (Kinesiology) and John Roussell (Communication Design) is leading a whole-school wellness transformation project at the Children's Storefront School in East Harlem, New York. The project is being captured in a documentary titled "No Excuses!"
The Adapted Physical Education Program received a $1.25 million, five year Federal Personnel Preparation Grant to fund Training and Research in Autism and Collaboration in Kinesiology (TRACK).
