Center for Mathematics and Science Education, CSU, Chico
National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Student Chapter California State University, Chico
If you are interested in becoming a science teacher, NSTA is a great way to get involved at Chico State. Being a member of NSTA offers opportunities to meet faculty and other science teaching students, find scholarships and internships, make new friends, learn new teaching techniques, build a community in Chico, enhance your resume, and so much more! There are scholarships available to science and math majors, and being a member of NSTA will give you a great competitive edge over other students.
The goal of NSTA is to learn how to be great teachers. This means getting involved in the community of Chico, both on campus and off. Our members represent the Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Anthropology departments. We are involved in all of these departments, and the faculty at Chico State often share their teaching secrets and strategies with us. NSTA is also involved in the student council for the College of Natural Sciences.
NSTA plans several special events and field trips throughout the semester. Our trips for Fall 2008 include a trip to the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, at no cost to NSTA members. We often have guest speakers and fun activities, such as learning how to make ice cream using dry ice.
Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month (excluding holidays and special events, see calendar) at 5:00pm in Physical Sciences 206.
See our Calendar of Events for a list of our special events.
