Math Field Day
This event, geared towards 8th, 9th, and 10th graders enables students to experience the environment of Chico State University, especially rural students and those who may not yet be planning college as an option.
Students have the opportunity to work with higher-level problem solving mathematics in an interesting, social way. They attend presentations featuring Chico Mathematics Project alumni in CSU, Chico classrooms throughout campus and even compete in a problem-solving math steeplechase.
As this event is open to all students of varying math abilities, teachers should not feel pressed to bring only their best students. We encourage involvement from underrepresented groups in mathematics, since these students are often reluctant to volunteer.
The center has a history of successful Math Field Days. We hope to have the funding available again soon to continue this popular event.
