Internships, Scholarships, and Tutoring Positions

The senior year teaching internship is a program available to eligible CSU, Chico students and is the culminating experience for Project MATH students. Selected interns are paired and assigned to teach one of the universities remedial math courses. They work under the direction of a mathematics faculty member while being responsible for running the class, holding office hours, and assigning grades. This experience has been cited by students as their single most important undergraduate experience. To top it off, interns are paid around $1500/semester. CSU, Chico is committed to supporting students interested in becoming mathematics teachers and has made available substantial scholarships for such students. Participation in Project MATH is taken into consideration in awarding these scholarships. Other scholarships are available through the University's Financial Aid Scholarship Office. University scholarships are awarded in amounts from $100 to $3,000. The deadline to apply for the following academic year is usually February 1.

Students of CSU, Chico and participants of Project MATH have unique opportunities to earn money while they learn. Participants may be hired for paid tutoring positions at middle and high schools. Currently, Project MATH students work in a mentoring/tutoring program at Chico High School for two hours a week. Seniors also have the opportunity to team-teach incoming college freshman remedial mathematic classes. Team-teaching internships pay about $1,500 per semester.
