Student Internships

All Spring 2010 internship positions have been filled. Information will soon be available regarding Summer 2010 internship oportunities!

Internship Options:

Beginning with the Fall 2009 semester, the CNAP Internship program will be offering two internship options. Please read below for a description of each option and complete application instructions.

Internship Option 1: Nutrition Education Program Administration

In the Nutrition Education Program Administration internship, students have the opportunity to learn about the administrative tasks involved in working with a grant funded program. The intern is responsible for a wide variety of clerical and office duties which can include the following:

  • Answer the phone and questions from vendors, program and partner staff, and other student staff.
  • Maintain files and documentation of expenditures and state share tracking using established procedures and MS Excel
  • Guide program and partner staff, students and interns in completing reimbursement requests and tracking documentation
  • Stay abreast of allowable and unallowable issues, seek guidance from others on “allowability” questions related to grant funding
  • Create or revise existing forms to acquire the information needed to process reimbursement requests
  • Solve problems and get input from others on how to solve problems as they arise
  • Apply solutions consistently
  • Enter tracking data into Excel files
  • Perform other tasks as requested

Internship Option 2: School/Community Based Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Promotion

In the School/Community Based Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Promotion internship, students have the opportunity to assist in planning and implementation of various nutrition and physical activity (PA) program activities (see list of programs at http://www.csuchico.edu/cnap/nodes/programs/). This includes SCNAC activities and/or OPT for Fit Kids activities. The intern is responsible for a wide variety of duties which can include the following:

  • Assist in assessing community needs for nutrition/ PA education
  • Assist in planning nutrition/ PA education strategies, interventions and programs
    • Research appropriate nutrition/ PA education materials
    • Collate nutrition/ PA educational flyers and materials
  • Assist in implementing nutrition/ PA education strategies, interventions and programs
    • Deliver nutrition/ PA education lessons and presentations
    • Deliver nutrition/ PA educational flyers and materials
    • Engage children of all ages and adults in nutrition/ PA outreach events and promotions
  • Assist in nutrition/ PA education program research and evaluations

Application Instructions:

This form is an Adobe fill-in form. You can either print it and drop it off at the CNAP office (25 Main St, Ste 201, see map here) in the inbox or you can submit it by e-mail. If you submit by e-mail, hit the "submit by e-mail" button on the Adobe form and follow the directions carefully. It will prompt you to save a data file. Save this file to your desktop and attach it to the e-mail you send to Amie Riesen (ariesen@csuchico.edu). Please send your application data file and your resume or any other required documents in the same e-mail. Complete instructions are on the application form. Please note that we do require a resume or performance evaluation with the application. For all applications, be sure to follow the directions carefully and include all required attachments listed on the application form. Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant. Applicants will not be considered until a complete application is submitted. If your completed application is submitted after the original set deadline, your application may not be considered until the next application cycle.

You will recieve a conformation e-mail when we recieve your application and you will be notified within two weeks of the application deadline. If you do not receive a confirmation, please call Amie Riesen at 530.898.3571.

For new interns only we require an interview. During the week following the interviews, we will make final decisions and then contact you. Depending on the number of qualified applicants and the number of internship positions available, you may be placed on a waiting list after your interview. If internships become available mid-semester, we will contact applicants on the waiting list first.

For Future Employment:

CNAP requires students to do a minimum of: 1) 135 internship hours (3 units) in one semester or 2) 90 internship hours each semester for two consecutive semesters (totaling 4 units) to be considered for a longer-term paid position. All applicants must provide a minimum availability of 10 hours per week (Mon - Fri, 8am - 5pm) to be considered. In rare cases, we may be able to pay an applicant prior to the completion of required internship hours on a special need/ special skill basis.
