Pathophysiology: the Heart of Second Semester

Second semester includes a thorough review of pathophysiology. Each body system is studied, with a particular emphasis on the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems. Common diseases, altered physiological processes, medical treatment and nursing interventions for these disease states are studied in detail. This knowledge base greatly enhances your patient assessment and clinical nursing skills.

The clinical during second semester is a rotation through the various units in the hospital for exposure to different types of nursing practice. There are many opportunities during this rotation to practice communication skills, aseptic technique, medication administration, interpretation of lab values, and gain new nursing skills. At the end of this rotation you will feel more comfortable as a nurse and more confident in your ability to care for patients. Second semester is truly an interesting and rewarding experience.
