Pediatric and Maternal-Child Nursing

Third semester is an interesting tour of pediatric nursing and an in-depth overview of maternal-child obstetric nursing. The pediatric nursing rotation will include a special education rotation with developmentally challenged children, a clinical hospital pediatric rotation, and hands on experience in an immunization clinic. All aspects of a child's growth and development from the newborn infant stage throughout the life span and into adulthood will be thoroughly covered. Childhood diseases, common birth defects, and health management and/or corrective procedures are outlined.

The maternal-child obstetric rotation includes a 2-day visit to the Better Babies Clinic in Chico, a clinical hospital rotation in an Obstetric department, and lectures covering conception through birth and postpartum. OB clinical education will include participation and assistance in live births, fetal heart monitor, and starting and managing intravenous devices. Third semester is an excellent preparation into all areas of pediatric and OB nursing.
