Public Health Nursing and Geriatric Nursing
Public health nursing is one of focuses of
fifth semester. The public health clinical rotation is 80 hours long and consists
of making in-home patient visits one day a week. The heart of this practice
is on planning and providing nursing care that meets the special and often
unique needs of patients in an in-home setting. The rotation gives the student
nurse an opportunity to explore home nursing, and challenges them to further
develop their ability to work independently. This rotation is a gateway to
the public health field and leads to the very valuable "Public Health
Certificate".
In addition to public health nursing, fifth
semester also consists of 10 days of in-hospital clinical time. This clinical
time is divided into 2-day consecutive segments for a total of 5 clinical
weeks. The purpose of this rotation is to experience new clinical opportunities
and fine-tune nursing skills.
