Math Requirements for Business Students
The math you are required to use as a business major is not overly complicated or difficult. Many business concepts are, however, expressed mathematically, and the greater your facility with math, the better you will understand these concepts. Therefore, it is very important that you complete the required mathematics for the Business Program as soon as you can.
If you are a freshman…
Take the Entry Level Mathematics (ELM). This exam is required of in-coming freshmen (with some exceptions) and is used to assess your level of ability in math through beginning and intermediate algebra, and plane geometry. If you wish, you may take this test more than once to improve your score, but you are not required to “pass” this test; it is an assessment test only. However, if you want to study for the ELM, you can buy self-study materials like How To Pass the California ELM Test. You can also inquire about tutorials, either at your high school or on the CSU, Chico campus.
- Enroll in the math class the ELM places you in.
- Take a math class each semester until you finish
MATH 107 and BADM 103/MATH 108/MATH 105.
If you have questions about which math class you need to take or are not able to enroll in a math course your first semester, contact an undergraduate business advisor for additional course selection choices. Visit Glenn 325, or phone 530-898-4480.
