The College of Business’ Matt McLaughlin, who teaches in the California State University, Chico MBA program, was recently awarded the Enloe Leadership Award for financial performance in 2016. McLaughlin teaches “Seminar in Strategic Management and Administration Policy,” the MBA capstone course in the College of Business at CSU, Chico, and is the manager of three departments at Enloe Medical Center, including Home Care, Hospice, and Home Medical Equipment. These departments provide clinical services to patients in care outside of hospitalization.

McLaughlin was recognized for achieving sustained financial improvements and for being a “consistent and methodical manager,” according to Myron Machula, VP and CFO of Enloe Medical Center.

“Several of his employees have stated that Matt makes them feel empowered, heard, and inspired. This has not been easy, as he has had to make unpopular decisions, change old habits, and introduce new processes,” Machula said. “He has had to take the time to encourage followers, discourage negativity, and be forthright in his transition management. In addition, Matt has been given the charge to improve these three functions to at least financially break-even status after several years of negative operating results. He has done even better by achieving and maintaining positive margins over a multiyear period.”

McLaughlin started teaching at CSU, Chico in fall 2007 and has proved to be an asset to the College of Business by providing his students with applicable, real-world scenarios for management success.

“Matt has been a consistent performer for us and really cares about his students,” said Mike Rehg, chair of the Department of Management. “His teaching ratings from students are always great. He brings a high degree of professionalism to his classes and is always highly prepared for teaching. Being a manager at Enloe, he makes his classes relevant for his students.”
