Admission to the Master of Business Administration Program

The CSU, Chico MBA program welcomes applications from both domestic and International students who are motivated to learn the skills and knowledge they need to become successful managers. Although some business experience is suggested, it is not required and students do not need an undergraduate business degree. Students that do not have an undergraduate business degree will need to take a series of courses to prepare for their graduate business program.

The MBA program admits students on a competitive basis and typically admits about 50-60% of the applicants. Students will largely be considered based on a combination of their GPA, GMAT/GRE scores, and the quality of their statement of purpose and letters of recommendation. We look for students with standardized test scores of at least the 50th percentile for both quantitative and verbal skills. For the GMAT that is a combined score of 570 or higher, and for the GRE that is a combined score of 303 or higher. Regarding Grade Point Averages from previous degrees, the MBA program desires applicants with a 2.75 (or higher) in the last 60 units of an undergraduate degree and we prefer at least a 3.0 in the last 30 units.

Test score and GPA expectations are general, and we may consider students with test scores or GPA’s lower than these typical scores. We consider the entire application packet (including letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, etc.) to come to a decision about admission into the program. Significant work experience, while not a requirement, will be considered as one component of the review process.
