In 1887, General John Bidwell, a renowned entrepreneur, and environmentalist, donated an eight-acre cherry orchard adjacent to his Chico home and construction began on Chico State Normal School. That institution would later become CSU, Chico, a university that continues the Bidwell tradition of entrepreneurship and environmental concern.
Countless successful CSU, Chico alumni entrepreneurs produce and distribute their products to markets throughout the world.
