What is the CSP?

The California Science Project (CSP) is a university based professional development network for teachers of science at all levels. This statewide network works toward the common goal of improving science education for all students in California. CSP sites exist across the state at campuses of the California State University, the University of California and independent college/universities. For the past decade, the CSP has been and continues to be, a regional provider of services to schools and districts seeking to strengthen their science instruction consistent with the California Science Framework and the California science Content Standards.

What we do:

Looking Forward

English Language Development Institutes

The CSP, In collaboration with the Governor's English Language Development Initiative, hosts regional institutes that integrate English language learning strategies and core science content. These institutes use a model developed by the Life Lab Science Program/Monterey Bay Science Project. This model uses science to support the development of grades K-8.

Technology

The CSP Technology Initiative is a new focus in our work in 2000, this is represented in our efforts to develop tools for our network and a website to improve access to valuable resources. In 2001, the initiative will involve the CSP network in examining effective ways to integrate technology in both professional development and the teaching of science.

High Schools

The CSP High School Initiative will focus on professional development for high school teachers. Many of the CSP sites will provide programs based on the needs and concerns of these teachers and focus on the California Science Content Standards and effective practices that support student achievement.
