Purpose: This award is designed to acknowledge outstanding student teaching achievement by a CSU student in the biotechnology educational arena encompassing the interface of chemistry, biology, engineering, and business.
This award is named after Professor Crellin Pauling (San Francisco State University) for his extraordinary contributions to the training of teachers and scientists and his commitment to the creation of a scientifically literate electorate.Eligibility: Any CSU undergraduate or graduate student nominated by CSU faculty. To be considered, each nominee must also write a narrative as described below under Nomination Process.
Award: A $500 cash prize to be presented at the Annual CSUPERB Biotechnology Symposium on January 13, 2007. The recipient will give a brief acceptance speech.
Nomination Packets:
Each nominee will be nominated by a CSU faculty member and attend the
annual CSU Biotechnology Symposium, January 11-12, 2008.
1. CSU Faculty Nominator Responsibility
• Award nomination cover page (signed),
• A letter of nomination of not more than 2 pages that describes the nature and
impact of the nominee's contributions to the biotechnological education of other
students.2. CSU Student Nominee Responsibility
• A narrative of not more than 2 pages describing both the formative experiences that
led to the nominee's contributions (described in the Nominator's letter) and how
the nominee's teaching experiences have impacted the nominee.

Evaluation of Nominees: A committee of CSUPERB faculty will review nominations. The award will be given each year in which there are excellent candidates.
