Contemporary Literature by Cuban Women Writers
English speaking audiences have shown they are hungry for the Latin American women’s voices that have emerged in translation over the last few decades. Little by little, the rich contributions by women to pre- and post-revolutionary Cuban narrative fiction are gaining recognition nationally and worldwide. Still, few names of Cuban women writers that still reside and publish on the island are as familiar as those of their Cuban-American counterparts. Cubanabooks has made a commitment to offer a venue for the exciting work being done by contemporary Cubanas, starting with the funny yet poignant prose of prominent author Mirta Yáñez and the irony and social criticism of Nancy Alonso. A wealth of eclectic writers remains to be explored, with styles ranging from fantasy/horror to science fiction to literary to elegance gritty testimonial-style chronicles of the hard years on the island.
